Unless you’ve been living under a rock, the No. 1 track in the U.S. surpassed the previous record holder: “Sorry” by Justin Bieber.

The track set a record before its English version, becoming the Spanish-language video on Vevo with the most views in 24 hours after its release on January 13. It’s also the fastest ever music video with 2 billion views already.

“Streaming is a connector for audiences worldwide and it has helped my music reach every corner of the planet. It is truly an honor that ‘Despacito’ is now the most streamed song in history.” Fonsi commented on his record.

“Streaming has opened up the possibility of a song with a different beat, from a different culture and in a different language to become a juggernaut of success around the world. My congratulations to Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber, on this tremendous accomplishment.”, Lucian Grainge, chairman and CEO of Universal Music Group said.

The record for the longest stint at No. 1 is owned diva Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men’s “One Sweet Day,” which ruled for 16 weeks in 1995-96.

Would “Despacito” also managed to take down this record?
